Exciting things are happening at Lamar.
Lamar has three new FFA Educators including a part-time grounds manager assigned to the barns on Riceville School Road. We have started reducing the invasive trees and making improvements to the Woodland there with assistance from Texas Forest Service and Texas Agriculture Extension Agency. The TFS Urban Forester on Friday measured a Harris County Notable Huisache Tree on the property. That means it is the second largest Huisache in Harris County Big Tree Registry. As soon as all the paper work is completed by the school I will let you know more. Two calves were born the last week of September and beginning story with the calf scramble at the Livestock and Rodeo show was on the front page of the Village News Oct 20.
FFA is not extracurricular! The program is part of a three-part model of education that consists of classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experiences and the FFA. Classroom agricultural education is applied to hands-on learning opportunities called supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs). SAEs include activities such as raising an animal, starting a business, working for an established company or working in production agriculture. The FFA provides members the opportunity for leadership experience and competitions, scholarships and personal opportunities for involvement. FFA is a dynamic student-led leadership development organization for students of agricultural education. The FFA changes lives and prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.
